How It Works

Every aspect of the mobile is specifically designed to resonate with your baby's developmental stage, taking into account scientific results and translating them into early cause-and-effect learning, high-contrast visuals, and pleasant soundscapes. Our story

We are Lera and Florian, an architect and an engineer, parents of two, living in Porto, Portugal.Inspired by a drawing in a book by Swiss paediatrician Remo Largo, we built a first version of the Baby Mobile for our first daughter. Put together during the rare free, sleep-deprived hours of our daughter's first weeks, it was very simple - so simple that it didn't work :) When our second daughter announced herself, we decided to make it work this time.We went on a deep-dive into scientific literature, and discovered the vast body of work on the Mobile Conjugate Reinforcement paradigm. that shows how babies engage longer and are happier when their actions control their environment.Encouraged by the mobile's decades of use in developmental research, we improved the original by replacing the ribbon on one leg with safe wireless motion sensors attached to both ankles. Now, an infant's natural kicks directly control the mobile's rotation, speed, and sounds.After successful prototype testing, we are excited to be moving ahead to bring this science-based, empowering tool to families everywhere.

FAQ's

Is the Bluetooth (BLE) radio safe for babies?

Yes. Tiny Controls uses ultra-low energy BLE technology. The signal strength is significantly weaker than a standard smartphone, Wi-Fi router, or even most modern baby monitors.

What age is Tiny Controls best for?

The system is designed around the Mobile Conjugate Reinforcement paradigm, which is most effective for infants between 2 and 6 months of age, just as they are developing active limb control and grasping cause-and-effect relationships.

Are the ankle straps secure and comfortable?

Absolutely. We use a proprietary, baby-safe soft fabric that secures gently around the ankle. It contains no hard plastics near the skin and is completely washable.

Is the mobile soothing for my baby?

The mobile is designed to encourage your baby's engagement and stimulate their senses, so it is not expected to put your baby to sleep. However, as with all good workouts, it might help your baby to sleep better.

How often and for how long can I let my baby play with it?

Based on the existing research, babies loose interest in the interactive mobile on average after around 30 minutes, which is also the play time we suggest, for twice a day. However, every baby is different, so from your babies reactions you will likely get a good understanding for how long you should use it. After all, there are also plenty of other things your baby will enjoy exploring.

Can I keep the mobile hanging over my baby's crib while not using it?

Since this is an engaging, stimulating toy, we suggest to keep it out of your baby's sight outside of playtime. We have designed the mobile's stand such that you can easily rotate the mobile away from the crib, or you can take it off the hook and put it somewhere else.
